Behaviour Management Policy

Our behaviour management approach is therapeutic, trauma-informed and relational. We recognise that all behaviour is a form of communication.

Next review: Annual

Principles of our approach

  • Behaviour as communication: underlying causes such as unmet SEN, social-emotional needs or trauma are always considered.
  • Positive and proactive: prevention is prioritised through proactive strategies.
  • Relationships are key: respect, trust and empathy are central.
  • Consistency with flexibility: approaches are consistent across staff but tailored to each pupil.
  • De-escalation first: physical intervention is a last resort, in line with statutory guidance.

Reporting, monitoring & training

All incidents, including minor breaches, are documented in the central reporting system and reviewed regularly by the Head of Provision and DSL. All staff receive regular training in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation and positive handling, and safeguarding.
